Key lawmaker wants answers from Comey on Clinton email probe

Comey’s startling October 28 decision to open a new review into newly discovered emails, recovered in a separate investigation into the estranged husband of a top Clinton aide, has generated fresh rebukes – mostly from Democratic lawmakers – whose previous strong support gave Comey, a Republican, made-man status on Capitol Hill.

She started her Sunday with a visit to an African-American church in Philadelphia, where she spoke of her candidacy in nearly spiritual terms, as she tried to motivate black voters in the crucial swing state to support her.

In Florida alone, Hispanic participation is up by more than 453,000 votes, almost doubling the 2012 level.

Johnson, in an interview with WTMJ-AM, said with the latest letter clearing Clinton that Comey “is just covering his backside here”. Even when he did the correct thing, he did it in the wrong way. That should have been the end of it.

That was Comey’s original sin. There were rumors Comey had to reveal the existence of the emails found on Weiner’s laptop before some anti-Clinton agents leaked them.

In July, Comey announced he would not file charges against the former secretary of state and Democratic presidential nominee over her and her aides’ handling of classified information sent in personal emails. Reportedly, she rolled her eyes and shrugged.

“The FBI’s swift and thorough review should finally close the door on this Republican sideshow”, House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi said, adding the election would now be decided “on the merits of the candidates” rather than innuendo.

Better late than never, I suppose, but there is no way to fully undo the damage Comey inflicted. The emails were discovered during a separate probe into charges of sexting against Anthony Weiner, the estranged husband of top Clinton aide Huma Abedin.

A spokesman for the FBI Agents Association said the more than 13,000 active and former special agents it represents have become the victims of “unwarranted attacks” on their integrity.
