Key Patriots receiver Julian Edelman reportedly ‘cleared to play’
Edelman hasn’t played in a game since November 15, but he has been practicing with the team since the middle of December. “I try to push things”, Edelman said, via the Providence Journal.
Where he was missed the most was on third down; at the time of his injury, the Patriots were humming along at a 50 percent success rate. Since it has been two months since Brady and Edelman have played on the field together, they have reportedly been staying late after practice together to work on chemistry and timing, as reported by ESPN.
So it’s easy to see how important it is for the Patriots and Brady to get Edelman back not just not on the field, but in his previous form.
Edelman also is an outstanding player on offense and the champions need all the help they can get especially in the playoffs to successfully defend their title. They take on the Kansas City Chiefs at 4:25 p.m. ET Saturday.
While Tom Brady is one of the greatest quarterbacks in the history of the National Football League, he relies on Edelman considerably in the Patriots current offense.
The 29-year-old wide receiver could have had a splendid 2015 regular season, but the injury limited him to only nine games in which he had 61 receptions for 692 yards and seven touchdowns.
“I’m going to go full throttle regardless”, Edelman said.
Tight end Rob Gronkowski was the lone player missing from the session as the team began its second practice of the week leading up to Saturday’s Divisional Round game with the Chiefs on Saturday afternoon. He brings that quick, short pass dynamic to the New England offense.
