Kids ‘shop with a cop’ at Walmart
Retired and active officers paired up with almost 200 children in need, for the annual Shop with a Cop event.
Christmas can be tough on families who struggle financially.
The children were greeted by 53 Wilmington police officers and a free breakfast.
“Trying to make a nice bright Christmas for everybody”, said Thomas Rolling, Commander of Operations at Ashwaubenon Department of Public Safety.
“I don’t want to be selfish”, JJ said.
“I got some stuff for my cousin and my sisters”, she said.
The Order bought more than $30,000 dollars’ worth of merchandise on Sunday in order to spend $200 dollars per child.
Some made a decision to buy gifts for their family members. One little girl says she had a good time. “It breaks down the barriers”, said Rolling. It was all part of the Shop with a Cop event.
“You see that sparkle in their eye because they’re excited because they get to go out and shop and get some things they might not get to have otherwise”, Det.
This year the department teamed up with kids from Parkway school, and after shopping, they went bowling and had lunch thanks to iPic Entertainment and Kohl’s.
