Kieran Gibbs says Arsenal ready to win Premier League
Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has poured cold water on the notion that the Gunners could be title contenders this season by claiming that they still need at least four more players through the door if they are to seriously challenge Chelsea for honours, the Metro reports. He had stated, “They’re a great team, and it would be a dream but for now that’s all it is, a dream”.
Asked if Arsenal still had a soft centre in the big matches, he insisted: “I think it’s already changed”.
“What’s key is that we continue the form, continue the belief that we’ve shown over the last two years”.
Gibbs, 25, joined Arsenal in 2004, when the Wimbledon academy disbanded amid the club’s move to Milton Keynes, and broke into the senior ranks three years later.
He lost his regular starting role to Nacho Monreal in the latter stages of last season. Combine all of this with the fact that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger said they are unlikely to sign another attacking player this window and there are still some questions in this area going forward.
“The Premier League is a tough, tough league”. He could be playing alongside his national side team-mate Alexis Sánchez soon if a deal is completed with his current club Internacional. Chelsea are Arsenal’s opponents in the Community Shield at the start of August.
“A game like this is vital especially this season”. “It starts in less than a month”.
“It inspires youngsters because when you see players in the flesh – and we’re on the other side of the world to these people so it must mean ever more – it gives you a sense of reality. We haven’t really got time for friendlies so we’ve got to get into competitive mentality as fast as possible”.
