Killed & Dozens Injured In Philippines Bombing
Philippine police have taken into custody a man who may be involved in Sept 2 night’s blast that killed 14 people and injured almost 70 others in the southern city of Davao.
She recalled that during her term as president, she also declared the whole country under a state of emergency and state of lawlessness in 2006 and 2003, respectively.
Police are searching for the three – and possibly a fourth person – over the bombing, which has been widely blamed on the Muslim extremist Abu Sayyaf group. But it is also possible that drug dealers were involved given the bloody war Duterte has been waging against them.
The explosion erupted near one of the top hotels in the city, which is frequented by Duterte. “We will take this as a police matter about terrorism”.
“The explosion happened at around 10:20 PM tonight, “reports Atenews, the student news agency at Ateneo de Davao University, which is across the street from the blast’s location on Roxas Street”.
Communications secretary Martin Andanar said the bomb appeared to have been made from a mortar round and doctors reported numerous victims had shrapnel wounds. Reuters adds words that Philippine officials believe Islamic State-linked rebels are to blame for the explosion that occurred in President Rodrigo Duterte’s hometown, but the BBC adds that it may have been an allied group that launched this attack.
In both instances, Arroyo assigned Duterte, then mayor of Davao City, to handle the situation in Mindanao.
Duterte has made fighting drugs the top priority of the beginning of his presidency. Nevertheless, the government pushed back the criticism of the Catholic Church, the groups of defense of human rights, legislative rights andeven the United Nations, in this sense.
“The office of the president texted and confirmed that was an Abu Sayyaf retaliation”.
The military is continuing to press an offensive against the Abu Sayyaf in Jolo following a clash on August 29 that left 15 soldiers dead. It was formed by Abdurajak Abubakar Janjalani, who trained in the Middle East and reportedly met with al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.
The death toll has risen to 14 while 67 were reported hurt in an explosion reportedly claimed by a terrorist organization allied with the bandit group Abu Sayyaf.
Duterte said it was important that the suspects be caught alive so police could get more information.
