Killed in Karachi rockslide incident
At least 13 people were killed while 10 others were injured Tuesday morning as a rockslide hit a few shacks in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar area.
Police said the incident took place early on October 13 when a mass of mud and rocks crashed down a hill into camps in Karachi, the capital of southern Sindh Province.
Karachi Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui directed the concerned personnel to rush to the accident site along with the required machinery so that the rescue operation could be revved up.
Rangers and policemen also arrived at the scene and participated in the rescue operation. He said that all the deceased people belonged to two families who established their camps at the site three days ago.
After toiling all day at work, residents of katchi abadis or slums were caught unaware late in the night by a deadly landslide, which claimed the lives of 13 people.
Rescue workers and paramilitary forces search for survivors in the rubble of a landslide in the Gulistan-i-Jauhar area in Karachi.
The recovered bodies have been shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for legal formalities.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the tragic incident.
