Kim Jong-un sends birthday wishes to Xi Jinping
“Mr Trump’s unconventional approach leaves a lot to be desired in the foreign policy of the United States, but there was no other path to this less-than-satisfying but digestible outcome”.
It was unclear whether Trump was referring to the American people or only to his staff.
Transparently, he does not want a war with the United States.
Instead, Trump made a huge concession up front – stopping joint US military exercises with South Korea, a key tool for keeping pressure on the North. The fact that he appeared to make this decision without informing the Pentagon, never mind officials in Seoul or Tokyo, troubled leaders in both capitals at a time when Mr. Trump has increasingly shown his disregard for traditional American allies. But Bret Baier actually wanted to know a little bit about that, so he did the right thing by asking Donald Trump about this atrocities committed by Kim Jong Un, and this is what Trump had to say to that question. Following drills a year ago, the North fired ballistic missiles over Japan, triggering a global alarm and ratcheting up a diplomatic war of words between Trump and Kim.
Lim Sung-nam headed to Washington where he is set to attend the South Korea-U.S.
“China takes total advantage of the United States”, Schumer said in an interview.
Trump said Secretary of State Mike Pompeo would be “working directly with North Korea” in the coming weeks and months to “implement the denuclearization deal”. He said discussions to begin the process would begin in a week.
And that flimsy piece of paper Trump signed guaranteed absolutely nothing and contained far weaker promises than those wrung out of North Korea by earlier administrations – promises, by the way, that the “very honorable” regime broke. Later, he told reporters: “I was kidding”.
Facing questions about his public embrace of Kim and the North Korean’s autocratic leadership style – including what Trump said was a joke about the obedience of the autocratic Kim’s advisers – the president said he was doing what is necessary for peace.
‘Anyone can make war, but only the most courageous can make peace, ‘ Trump says in new video. Following the attack on Sony, the Federal Bureau of Investigation publicly blamed North Korea, the first time it had done so.
“This has been his own idea expressed since the campaign”, said Fumiaki Kubo, a professor of political science at the University of Tokyo. North Korea will be denuclearised, by consent or by being compelled.
And he got Trump to accept North Korea’s deliberately vague language about the “denuclearization of the Korean peninsula”, with no specific reference to North Korea’s nuclear weapons, let alone any talk of dismantling them. In so doing, he not only alarmed several U.S. allies, but also gave away what he could have traded for something from North Korea. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., summarized the case against Trump nicely: “We’re not against diplomacy”. After all, the US president has told the world that Kim is “very smart” and “honorable” and “wants to do the right thing”. Some experts experienced in North Korea and nuclear politics are skeptical.
“The old prejudices and practices worked as obstacles on our way forward, but we’ve overcome all of them, and we are here today”, he said through a translator. I think Donald Trump needs to understand the difference there.
