King of Fighters XIV coming to Japan in January
A brief reveal trailer was shown during Sony’s Tokyo Game Show press conference, which can be viewed below. SNK Playmore then returned to a traditional 2D presentation for 2009’s The King of Fighters XII and its 2011 follow-up The King of Fighters XIII for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
The footage, which features fully 3D fighters, offered few details but confirmed the game would be released on PS4 in 2016.
Though it has its roots in 2D gameplay, the King of Fighters franchise briefly shifted to 3D for KOF: Maximum Impact and its sequel on the PlayStation 2 and original Xbox.
King of Fighters XIV will launch in 2016 for PS4. The new 3D character models are interesting, though Event Hubs stated that this probably isn’t the final product yet and the actual models could look different as development of the game continues.
SNK Playmore announced the new King of Fighters game along with a teaser video.
It’s unclear at this point in time when King of Fighters 14 is going to be released for PlayStation 4, a release timeframe was not provided, but at least fans can rest assured knowing that sooner or later the title will be released. The size of the game’s roster hasn’t been mentioned yet, but it will be fun to see who makes the cut for next year’s game.
