King’s Cross station evacuated in evening rush hour due to ‘security alert’
As rush hour was set to start in the capital, closed platforms were evacuated as officers made inquiries.
“At approximately 4.15pm, a 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply of a Class B drug”.
British Transport Police (BTP) have detained a 40 year-old man on suspicion of intent to supply a Class B drug at King’s Cross Station, after hundreds of passengers were evacuated just before the beginning of the evening rush hour.
They later added: “Our armed officers at #KingsCross station have detained a man – some platforms will remain closed for now while we carry out enquiries”. Enquires are ongoing.
“Some platforms have been closed while this takes place”.
The suspect was detained “following an incident on the train”, which arrived at 3.58 p.m. local time (10.58 p.m. ET), said a spokesman for station operator, Network Rail. Lots of frantic staff here.
King’s Cross station was one of those targeted in the July 7th bombings in 2005, and has had a heavy police presence ever since.
“Please follow instructions from station staff and officers”.
Sea of people stuck at #KingsCross due to a “security incident”. Multiple platforms are closed while BTP continue their investigation, a spokesperson told City AM.
According to National Rail, some journeys are said to be delayed by up to 30 minutes.
