Kings Win Fifth Consecutive Game on the Road at Edmonton
The Oilers played half the game with five defensemen after Justin Schultz left because of an undisclosed injury.
The save by Quick to prevent the game going into overtime was hard to completely determine if it was a legitimate save or not as his glove crossed the goal line, but since the puck was not visible replay officials were unable to verify if the puck crossed the line.
“He made a good save”, remarked McDavid.
“I knew I didn’t see it go in”, Quick said. “Obviously it’s tough to see with his glove covering it up”. “Therefore the referee’s call on the ice stands – no goal Edmonton”.
C Tyler Toffoli scored a pair of goals, sparking the Kings to a 3-0 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes before an announced crowd of 18,230 at Staples Center on Friday night.
“Not the best feeling”, he said.
The Kings scored a total of 23 goals while earning points in four of their five meetings (3-1-1) with the Oilers last season. “It just shows that he’s a world-class goaltender”.
Oilers coach Todd McLellan was philosophical about the controversial call. They got one, but the character of this team came up again and we got one right back on them.
“He comes exactly as advertised”, Kings coach Darryl Sutter said after the morning skate.
The Oilers tied the game with six minutes left in the third as Hall was able to tip a Nugent-Hopkins feed past Quick to make it 2-2. Minnesota’s Jason Zucker scored 10 seconds into the game, but then Winnipeg got five consecutive goals.
The deciding goal came with Los Angeles on a power play.
Talbot has continued to play at that level this season, which should be notable for the Oilers considering those numbers were good for 21 wins in 36 games for the Rangers.
“I guess we don’t have to agree, but it’s made and we have to move on”.
The Oilers started the scoring five minutes into the game as the rebound from a McDavid shot came out to Pouliot, who rifled a wrist shot past Quick. The situation was seemingly remedied when GM Peter Chiarelli brought in former New York Rangers backup Cam Talbot.
