Kinsler’s walk-off homer leads Tigers over Royals
That was the last batter Sanchez faced, but relievers Neftali Feliz and Blaine Hardy couldn’t hold the lead. But this time the result was different, and a lot more fun.
Anibal Sanchez started the game shaky.
Alex Wilson (2-3) picked up the win, working out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the ninth.
The Royals grabbed a 3-0 lead in the second. Former Tiger Omar Infante followed with a two-run single up the middle. Drew Butera led off with a homer, and Kendrys Morales had a two-run double.
Yordano’s A-Ventura: Kansas City’s comeback meant Ventura was spared the loss, but the righty still allowed six runs over five innings, raising his ERA to 5.29. First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. One run was charged to Feliz, who has a 15.75 ERA since signing with the Tigers last month.
Maybe we should call it the “rally squirrel”.
Ian Kinsler hit a two-run homer off Ryan Madson in the ninth inning to give the Detroit Tigers an 8-6 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Thursday.
The squirrel scampered across left field, pausing to stare down Royals outfielder Ben Zobrist, before heading off in the direction of the Tigers bullpen. Kinsler is now 1 for 13 with the bases loaded this season. Avoided the double play twice to set up both of V-Mart’s home runs and was the hero with the walk-off home run.
But the Detroit Tigers’ designated hitter got untracked in a big way, blasting a pair of home runs through the fifth inning. They won back-to-back games against one opponent for the first time since taking two in a throw against Toronto July 3-4 in Detroit.
Ian Kinsler has reached base safely in seven consecutive games and is batting. His last multi-homer game was September 17, 2010, when he played for Boston. 543 games between multi-homer games.
Anibal Sanchez has given up a home run in four straight starts and a career high 24 on the season.
