Kirk Cousins to Sign Mega Deal with Minnesota Vikings
But all the popular and well, top free agents are rapidly being locked up in new contracts elsewhere.
This move is a sensible one for the Vikings, though it does carry some risk.
Free-agent quarterback Case Keenum “intends” to sign with the Broncos, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. His five-year Pro Bowl streak also ended. With this deal, which ESPN’s Adam Schefter says is fully guaranteed, Cousins will make out with almost $128 million in five years.
Free agent quarterback Kirk Cousins will sign the largest fully guaranteed contract in National Football League history if he formally agrees to join the Minnesota Vikings later this week, as first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Tuesday.
Cousins has started all 16 games in three straight seasons, with over 4,000 yards through the air and at least 25 passing touchdowns in each campaign. Thirdly, it was Sam Bradford intending to sign with the Arizona Cardinals.
The Jets now hold the No. 6 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, which is loaded with high-end quarterback prospects. For 2018, the Vikings will have to make very few sacrifices to accommodate Cousins. Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles’ new extension, three years and $54 million with $26.5 million guaranteed, appears to be an apt comparison. The New York Jets are working on a deal for Teddy Bridgewater, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
The Jets still have Christian Hackenberg and Bryce Petty under contract for 2018, but neither guy looks like a legitimate starter option.
His promising career was derailed by a non-contact knee injury that included a torn ACL and a dislocation.
After two full seasons with nearly no game action (Bridgewater played nine garbage-time snaps in Minnesota’s third-to-last regular-season game) it’s fair to question just how much of an impact Bridgewater will have for the Jets, though they are clearly banking on him fulfilling his potential and solidifying the quarterback position. They offered him a 3-year, $28M per year deal. No disrespect to him but he’d be a player with a huge question mark since there is no guarantee he’ll be an effective starter or play efficiently when his number is called.
