Kirk Cousins to start season as Redskins QB
Michigan State has been a quarterback factory over the past decade as Drew Stanton, Brian Hoyer, Kirk Cousins and soon-t0-be Connor Cook have all made a living in the league.
Washington Redskins’ coach Jay Gruden has named Kirk Cousins the starting quarterback for Week 1 against the Miami Dolphins, as reported by ESPN.
“Robert is a pro”, Gruden said.
The Washington Redskins are rumored to be nearing the end of the Robert Griffin III era, one that started with a giant trade and appears to be ending with a roster cut. “I don’t regret the skins grabbing RG, I do regret having a sorry a- team owner and sorry a- front office who couldn’t put a winning coaching staff together who could actually compete for a super bowl”. The Redskins even have had trade conversations about Griffin with a handful of teams, but they have found no interest, according to sources.
Gruden said the team still believes in Griffin, who has been plagued by injuries since leading the Redskins to the NFC East title.
Griffin is owed $16 million in injury-guaranteed money for 2016, as noted by the report. But the Redskins don’t have any other option with Griffin still hurt. Griffin was benched for the last three games in 2013. He’s a high-profile player, and deservedly so.
We now return you to your normal weirdness there. “We’re not anxious about that”.
Pierre Garcon had more than five catches in three games last season, each one started by a different quarterback. The messiah for a team that’s had sixteen starting quarterbacks in sixteen years, his career has taken the ultimate plunge. I marveled at that.
“The way that he is a fierce competitor, I’ve always respected”. “But moving forward with all the things that we’ve studied over the course of training camp and OTAs, we just feel like Kirk has earned the right to be the starting quarterback for 2015″. But Robert has been a great player himself, already.
“It’s Kirk’s team”, Gruden said.
If the rumors are true, it’s hard to say what will happen to Robert Griffin III next.
