Klay on Clippers’ ‘lucky’ comments: ‘Pretty sure we smacked them’
There’s this overplayed angle talked about by a few fans and pundits suggesting the Warriors just got lucky last season – for example, they faced a banged-up Rockets’ team in the conference finals then a Cavaliers’ squad without two of their big three through the Finals.
Whatever the motivation, these responses should make these teams’ first meetings of the season very interesting.
Warriors guard Klay Thompson opened up about an assessment of how lucky Golden State was in winning the 2015 championship – specifically in regard to comments made by Los Angeles Clippers coach Doc Rivers.
“If we got lucky, look at our record against them past year [3-1 in the regular season]”.
And if you want to take shots at Golden State, be prepared for Klay Thompson to throw massive levels of shade your way. “That’s fine. At the end of the day, we’re still the champs, so you don’t really pay attention to any of the comments”. “That just makes me laugh”. That’s amusing. Weren’t they 3-1 up too?
“We’ve got a ring”. Walking away from reporters after his interview session, Thompson continued, “I wanted to play the Clippers a year ago, but they couldn’t handle their business”.
Rivers admitted that he felt like his Clippers matched up well against the Warriors past year. But that’s also a lesson for us: “When you have a chance to close, you have to do it”.
WARRIORS centre Andrew Bogus has delivered a delicious sledge at conference rivals Los Angeles Clippers.
The new season can’t come quick enough.
“Everyone talks he is better on leadership, but they forget that Paul still can play”, he added. The once-moribund franchises that are now competing yearly for the Pacific Division title have played games filled with technical fouls, finger-pointing and altercations for the past four seasons.
“I’ve gone days without talking to him just intentionally because it’s easy for us to always get back to what the team’s doing and how everything’s going, which I know he’s concerned about”, said Fraser, Kerr’s college teammate.
