Klay Thompson Beats #SplashBrother Stephen Curry In 2016 3-Point Contest
That set the stage for Steph Curry, who needed a buzzer-beating final shot to reach 21 points and punch his ticket to the final, opposite his teammate for a second year in a row. He was one of the most animated during the Slam Dunk Contest – a thriller between Orlando’s Aaron Gordon, a Bay Area native, and Minnesota’s Zach LaVine.
After both players scored 50s on their first three dunks of the Finals, Gordon got a 47 on his fourth attempt.
“‘Go ahead and break the record, ‘” the Warriors’ Klay Thompson says Jordan told him during All-Star Weekend, according to Warriors sideline reporter Rosalyn Gold-Onwude.
Other participants were the Houston Rockets’ James Harden, Milwaukee Bucks’ Khris Middleton, Portland Trail Blazers C.J. McCollum, Los Angeles Clippers’ J.J. Redick, and the Toronto Raptors’ Kyle Lowry.
It’s official. Klay Thompson is the best three-point shooter in the country.
With a 48-4 midseason overall record (Curry missed two games due to injury), Golden State is poised to overtake the 72-10 record held by the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls.
“We’ve been winning and we’re putting ourselves in a position to be special”, Aldridge said.
Maybe they will come back next year and do it again.
You could make the argument Stephen Curry has been deserving of this award nearly every week of the season, but being that he just participated in All-Star Weekend, now’s as good a time as any to put the Spotlight on some of the Warriors’ supporting cast that makes his job that much easier. Just like last season.
Phoenix rookie Devin Booker was third, with 16 points in the final round. Last night, Klay Thompson won the event while Curry came in second place.
I was very interested and somewhat surprised to hear the National Basketball Association on TNT crew discussing how the mechanics of Thompson’s shot is prettier than Curry’s. Their record-setting start to the season brought unusually high attention to the NBA’s pre-Christmas schedule, and a strong finish and a chance at 73 wins would do the same during March Madness.
“You know, he’s the best shooter I’ve ever seen, so this is a rare occurrence that he loses”, Thompson said.
“Like half the dunks we did were like professional dunker dunks, and it takes them four or five times to try it and make it, and we did it on the first try”, LaVine said.
