Klay Thompson edges Stephen Curry in Three-Point Contest
I don’t care what words may have come out of his mouth, but there is no way that this pathological competitor would be fine with one of his legendary achievements being topped. Hopefully my brothers, and probably the rest of the world thinks Steph. Oddly enough, Thompson won the ultimate 3-point shooting prize in the same year he’s focused more on getting to the basket, drawing fouls and creating off the dribble.
Last year, Stephen Curry put on a show in New York City, winning the 3-Point title and confirming his dominance from outside the arc. “We love to shoot against each other”.
If Thompson is not the best, he is about as close as you can get to it. All year Thompson has shown off his talent.
The rookie held his own, but he could not out shoot Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry and eventual champion Klay Thompson.
Curry hit his final two shots to avoid elimination in the first round. For a team predominantly known for its collection of prolific shooters, Bogut provides a necessary toughness and grittiness that, without which, the Warriors would be nowhere near the elite status they now occupy. He won a tie-breaking shootout over the Clippers’ JJ Redick and Houston’s James Harden to reach the Finals.
Toronto’s Kyle Lowry (14) did not advance.
Meanwhile, Phoenix Suns’ Devin Booker was third, with 16 points in the final round. He gave me a lot of props.
Vince Carter’s showing in 2000 may have been a better individual effort, but no two players battled in the dunk contest – not even Michael Jordan and Dominique Wilkins in 1988 – the way Aaron Gordon and Zach LaVine did Saturday night. I told him – I was talking to him about my little brother [Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Trayce Thompson] playing for the [Birmingham] Barons, they played for the same baseball team.
The three-point contest has really become the premier event of the night, a reflection of the shot’s dramatically increasing prevalence in the game and the complete dearth of name brand talent participating in the dunk contest. On Friday, the Dubs will begin post-All Star break play with a matchup against the Trail Blazers in Portland, which commences a six-game road trip that will take the Warriors through the end of the month. Keep in mind that the money-ball rack (with four additional points) was introduced in 2014.
