Klay Thompson injures ankle in 39-point night
Thompson played an excellent game in the 131-123 victory over the Pacers, scoring 29 of his season-high 39 points in the first half alone.
Now the champions are undefeated in their past 27 regular season games (which include four wins from last season) and are tied with Miami Heat.
Among them was former Warrior David Lee, who tallied 12 points and six rebounds in 18 minutes after missing the previous two games with a bruised right heel.
“We play an up-tempo style, which means games can get into the 100s on each side, but we still have to involve our defensive principles”, Pacers coach Frank Vogel said.
The Thunder, who needed a late jumper by Durant to beat the Sacramento Kings on Sunday, spent the majority of the game against the Grizzlies with a double-digit lead.
The 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers won 33 consecutive regular-season games.
Thompson is averaging 17.2 points per game this season. He’s now made at least one 3 in 87 consecutive road games, tying the league record set by Rashard Lewis from 2007-09.
Klay Thompson had a season-high 39 points (10-of-16 from behind the arc) and added seven rebounds and six assists.
“It is the team’s call, and if it’s not 100 percent Friday, I might have to sit out because we have such a quick turnaround”, Thompson said Thursday of the team’s decision.
“Obviously, if it was a playoff game, I’m sure he’d be out there playing”.
Indiana, who outscored the Warriors 40-20 in the final quarter, were led by Paul George (33 points) and C.J. Miles (24 points). Orlando has made a 3-pointer in 677 straight games dating to 2007, a streak that was in jeopardy until Fournier’s shot.
Warriors interim coach Luke Walton has noticed some not-so-subtle changes around the league this season. Shortly after the Warriors defeated the Pacers, the Globetrotters’ Twitter account, decided it was a convenient point in time to remind Golden State which team really has the most impressive streak in basketball.
George had 18 first-half points for IN, which shot 42 percent during the opening two quarters (21 of 50). A lot of teams, including the Pacers, are trying to take a page out of the Warriors’ small-ball playbook.
Golden State begins to surge after that, as Andre Igoudala makes the steal, before going behind the back and finishing on the other end.
