Klay Thompson Responds to Doc Rivers’ Comments Regarding Warriors’ Title Run
Didn’t they lose to the Rockets?
Take for example, Doc Rivers’ comments to Grantland earlier this week, in which the Clippers coach said that he felt luck played a huge factor in the Warriors not having to face the Clippers or Spurs.
And get this, Thompson made the comments while his mouth was full of sunflower seeds.
Thompson told reporters on Friday (Saturday, Manila time): “That sounds pretty bitter to me”.
Rivers reckons Bogut’s boys were lucky they didn’t come up against the Clippers in the western conference playoffs last season, believing his team would have eliminated last season’s champions. “That just makes me laugh. Exactly”, Thompson said, laughing in reference to Houston coming from behind to beat the Clippers in the Western Conference semifinals.
The Clippers and the Warriors have had a chippy recent history, including the Clippers eliminating the Warriors from the first round of the playoffs in 2014 in a hard-fought series that went seven games.
Now Rivers wasn’t trying to say that the Warriors didn’t deserve to hoist the Larry O’Brien Trophy last season.
Rivers, who allowed a James Harden-less team on the brink of elimination come back from an 18 point 4th quarter deficit, seems to be convinced that if they hadn’t blown a 3-1 lead, the Clippers would have defeated the league-best Warriors.
“We respect all previous champs”, Bogut said.
“We’ve got a ring”.
The Warriors won their first title in 40 years at the expense of the Cleveland Cavaliers in June, but not everyone has warmed to Golden State’s achievement. Yeah, tell them I said that. They didn’t have to play us or the Spurs. Obviously, you’ve got to motivate yourself and I’m sure he’s motivated this year to do a few special things. We know what it takes.
“He’s one guy of our team that’s the victor, so he can teach a few of our veterans on how to win”.
Player development coach Bruce Fraser said for the past 30 years he’s known Kerr, the two have spoken nearly daily but not of late.
