Klay Thompson responds to Doc Rivers’s playoff ‘luck’ comments
Told Rivers said the Warriors got lucky not having to play the Clippers or Spurs, Warriors guard Klay Thompson fired back Friday.
The Golden State Warriors enter the 2015-16 National Basketball Association season as the reigning champions.
It could also be easily pointed out that the Clippers were fortunate to get out of their first round series against the Spurs, as they needed a last second, hard floater from Chris Paul, to win Game 7. “They didn’t have to play us or the Spurs” says Doc Rivers in an interview with Grantland’s Zach Lowe. Thompson not only calls out the faulty logic of the comments – he also specifically wants the Clippers to know they should be embarrassed by their late-series collapse against the Rockets in the West semifinals. Thompson asked. “So that just makes me laugh”. That’s amusing. Weren’t they 3-1 up too?
“Yeah, tell them I said that.
By “couldn’t handle their business”, Thompson is referring to the Clippers’ inability to close out the Hosuton Rockets when up 3-1 in the Western Conference semi-finals, and instead of cruising to what would’ve been a very highly anticipated mathcup between the Warriors and Clippers in the conference finals, Los Angeles lost three consecutive games to Houston, abruptly ending their postseason. While speaking with reporters in Shenzhen, China, Rivers took the opportunity to clarify his comments. “That’s fine. At the end of the day, we’re still the champs, so you don’t really pay attention to any of the comments”. Every Warrior had a chance to keep the Larry O’Brien trophy and do as they pleased with it. They partied with it, hugged it, kissed it, and even brought it back to their hometowns.
Thompson of course was responding to what Doc Rivers and J.J. Redick said earlier this week. “I wish we could have played them…”
But something about the Clippers gets the Warriors talking.
Not surprisingly, Harden said he is the game’s most valuable player.
If the nuclear warheads for the Warriors-Clippers rivalry hadn’t been launched already, they sure as hell are airborne now. Then, they play twice during a 15-day span of the regular season: Nov. 4 at Oracle Arena and Nov. 19 in Los Angeles.
