Klay Thompson scores 60 for Warriors in rout of Pacers
Even as hot as Thompson was, it would have been extremely hard for him to score another 40 in the fourth quarter to match Chamberlain’s scoring record.
Not one to create his own shot, Thompson feeds off teammates such as Stephen Curry, Durant, Draymond Green, and Zaza Pachulia – all of whom are willing passers.
Thompson didn’t cool off in the locker room at halftime and extended his point total to 60 in the third quarter.
“It’s unbelievable.” Thompson’s 60 points were the most through three quarters since Kobe Bryant scored 62 in a December 2005 game. He also became the first player in the Shot Clock Era to reach 60 points in under 30 minutes.
Thompson’s time of possession on Monday was just a fraction of that of other players to go for 60 in recent memory.
Prepare your mind for some math. That’s a pace just a fraction slower than Wilt Chamberlain, who set the longstanding National Basketball Association record of 100 points in 48 minutes.
This elite shooting amounted to a true shooting percentage of 79.3%, which is almost 20 percentage points higher than his season average.
Thompson played 29:03 minutes Monday night, which means his pace was 2.0654 points per minute.
Klay Thompson was 100 percent right: He’s not sacrificing s**t.
TORONTO – LeBron James scored 34 points and the Cleveland Cavaliers overcame an injury to J.R. Smith to snap their three-game losing streak with a 116-112 victory over the Toronto Raptors on Monday night.
“I felt great, obviously”, Thompson told NBA TV during a post-game interview.
According to a 2013 report by Quartz, an average football game only includes about 11 minutes of action.
HOUSTON – James Harden scored 37 points and Al Horford missed a shot just before the buzzer to allow the Houston Rockets to hold on for a 107-106 victory over the Boston Celtics on Monday night. He has a pretty quick release, ya know. Short of that deal, Myers had a sneaking suspicion that the Spurs were moving toward a Plan B: cutting a deal to bound over the Warriors’ 11th overall pick and take Thompson.
The 60 points also were the most ever scored against the Pacers.
Tonight, Klay took 33 shots, made 21, and Curry and Durant combined to take 24 shots, making 13.
The Pacers’ starting shooting guard is Monta Ellis, former Golden State Warrior.
The Warriors moved to 18-3 on the campaign with their 14th win in 15 tries. The only other National Basketball Association player who scored more than 60 points multiple times in a game was Chamberlain on an insurmountable 32 occasions from 1959-73 with the Philadelphia/San Francisco Warriors and the Los Angeles Lakers. Almost two years ago, Thompson had a 37-point quarter on the way to 52 points against Sacramento. It was disappointing Thompson didn’t get a chance to check back in and build on his historic night, but the final numbers are jaw-dropping nonetheless.
