Klopp Accuses his Players of Losing Their Minds in Defeat
While Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp later claimed that his goalkeeper had been fouled, Bogdan himself admitted that he had made a mistake.
“The goal was important because Liverpool had a lot of defensive minded players in their midfield”, Flores explained.
Watford sensation Ighalo’s “scoop” turn has left a trail of destruction on the Hornets’ unlikely rampage up the Premier League table, just one point from the Champions League places.
He added: “I’m not blowing my own trumpet, but me and Iggy are probably one of the strongest forward partners in the Premier League”.
In Klopp’s defense, previous matches have indicated that Liverpool have worked on their confidence and attitude when it comes to the reaction after going down a goal. Replays suggested he might have had two hands on the ball when Ake pounced, but nonetheless it was a poor error.
Skrtel was partially at fault for Watford’s second goal today (he pushed Ighalo wide, but didn’t make an attempt to block the shot), but he still delivered an effective performance overall.
Klopp added, with more than a hint of sarcasm, that this had been “the most disappointing moment in my whole LFC life”, but was at pains to stress that the quality seen previously – in particular during eye-catching away wins at Chelsea, Manchester City and Southampton – hints at the potential of his squad.
“I had both hands on the ball but we are talking about a split-second”.
He said: “We lost our mind after the first goal, we lost our compact formation, we didn’t play easy, as we should have done”. We came here to do something really different from what you saw.
Jurgen Klopp said Liverpool “lost their minds” after making a terrible start to their defeat at Watford.
“Through the bodies it’s hard to see, I’m not blaming anybody else but myself”, Bogdan said.
That one did not reflect well on centre-half Martin Skrtel, who seemed to have forced Ighalo wide from Deeney’s pass but allowed him to score from a wide angle.
Odion Ighalo scored twice against the Reds, taking his tally to 12 Premier League goals from 17 appearances and Flores was delighted with his showing against the Reds.
On 85 minutes, the superb Ighalo headed home to grab his brace and secure an impressive win.
But the Chelsea supporters made it clear they felt that responsibility for the woeful start lay with the players. “I feel completely happy with the performance and the players”.
Watford manager Quique Sanchez Flores does not believe a foul should have been called on Nathan Ake. Oddly, Klopp refused to change their overall attacking approach in the second half even with Divock Origi’s introduction prior to the break. Couple that with our inability to remotely trouble Hornets ‘keeper Heurelho Gomes despite having the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Adam Lallana all on the pitch at the same time, and it’s safe to say that we’ve got bigger problems than Sakho trying to find his feet again.
