Klopp delighted with Liverpool emphatic rout of Southampton
Klopp said: “We had a talk”. I said “You have to learn this, this and this, do this and don’t do hard things” and he said “Yes, I know”. “We are hopeful that he can play this Saturday, but tomorrow is too early”.
“Liverpool are playing with confidence at the moment, we’ve got a bit of momentum and the manager is bright”.
As with the first, it was the type of thrilling goal that Liverpool produced with such regularity during their march to the verge of the Premier League title two seasons ago, but which had not been seen since then, before the arrival of Klopp.
“It was a great response from the lads, Studge [Daniel Sturridge] has scored two very important goals tonight”, he told liverpoolfc.com.
“Of course maybe he can be better”. Write this: “Daniel Sturridge can be much better than he was”. Southampton conceded the 43rd and 44th goals of Sturridge’s Liverpool career, and he’s only started 59 matches.
“He did not have the ideal pre-season”.
“It was a good decision (to select him), I have to say”.
Liverpool fell to eventual winners Chelsea in last season’s semi-finals, but with belief now coursing through the team again, their fans’ thoughts will already be turning to the final on February 28. I am absolutely satisfied with our goalkeeping situation.
“We have enough high-quality goalkeepers, I’ve had a lot of goalkeepers over the last few years and Simon Mignolet is one of the smartest I have ever had. Stoke will want this final, for sure”.
Elsewhere, Liverpool could rest several players with another important league fixture away at Newcastle United on Sunday in mind – but Mamadou Sakho, Danny Ings and Joe Gomez (all knee) definitely won’t be involved.
Ronald Koeman admitted attacking changes he made played a part in Southampton’s 6-1 Capital One Cup thrashing against Liverpool. Before that they’d won one out of 10 games.
“The second half is my responsibility”.
Liverpool have spluttered at home-losing 2-1 to Crystal Palace, drawing with Rubin Kazan and Southampton, and narrowly beating Bournemouth, Bordeaux and Swansea City-and Klopp must find a way to replicate his side’s blitzkrieg tactics when teams are not willing to come out and engage them.
Garde is planning to watch the match back today after admitting he missed it last night because he is still trying to get his television channels sorted – and he has warned Southampton will be keen to make amends for their cup capitulation.
