Klopp fumes at Liverpool flops
The loss at Vicarage is Liverpool’s heaviest premier league defeat to a promoted side since 1993 when they lost 3-0 to Newcastle United. “Of course the first goal with Adam Bogdan, he should keep it and he drops it”, Klopp said.
Liverpool goalkeeper Adam Bogdan has held his hands up and admitted blame for his clanger that led to Watford’s opening goal in their 3-0 victory over the Reds on Sunday.
Klopp did not send on Christian Benteke until the 74th minute but he rejected suggestions that the Belgian could be sold in January with Chelsea apparently interested. “The pitch is not the best one but it’s possible to play football if you play easy football”.
Joining Call Collymore following the triumph, striker Deeney said: “The most impressive thing about our performance today is that we bullied them”.
However, replays showed that Bogdan may have had both hands on the ball at the time of Ake’s strike.
Always in football it is like this, somebody makes a mistake.
“After Southampton everyone thought “wow”, and after Man City”. I admire them. We create a plan for these players and I trust them.
“It’s not that bad”.
“We have to be more clinical, and that will add up to more points”.
Klopp conceded that with hindsight he may have selected a different starting line-up, but in the same breath defended his right to rotate his squad.
“I’m surprised teams aren’t clocking on to the way we play, they’re still trying to play two centre-backs against me and Iggy”.
“So okay maybe it was not the best decision, I don’t know – we will never find out”.
John Barnes was alongside Souness and questioned whether or not the current crop of players is able to compete when they are faced with teams such as Watford when the chips are down.
With Daniel Sturridge restricted to one start since Klopp’s arrival, Liverpool have been lacking a focal point with Divock Origi and Christian Benteke flattering to deceive while Roberto Firmino’s involvement in attack has been fleeting. “It’s up to the player to change it”.
Watford boss Quique Flores said it’s hard to play against his side at the moment as the confidence in the team is so high.
