Klopp heaps praise on new signing Wijnaldum
Commenting on his move to Liverpool, Manninger told the club’s website: “Honestly, it was a surprise”.
Georginio Wijnaldum becomes the Reds’ seventh signing this season.
“The Premier League is the most attractive league in the world and you always have incredible players here”.
The new No. 5 is expected to appear in a Liverpool shirt for the first time on Wednesday evening (local time; 4.35pm Thursday, BST) when the Reds play Chelsea in Los Angeles.
“I know it’s hard for our supporters in this moment, because it sounds like other players really want to come us as they don’t have any other offers”, he said.
Georginio Wijnaldum scored 11 goals last season for Newcatsle in 38 appearances.
Mahmoud Dahoud, the Borussia Moenchehngladbach midfielder, is also proving hard to obtain and that has prompted Liverpool to turn to Wijnaldum, who scored in Newcastle’s 6-0 win over Bohemians on Saturday.
Liverpool will play against Arsenal on the opening day of the season to kick-off their 2016-17 Premier League campaign.
“[But] I always love to watch him, his passion as a coach, I like how he enjoys the game”.
With the likes of Emre Can, Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Marko Grujic all competing for a place in midfield role, Wijnaldum will be hoping his versatility will be an important factor for Klopp’s Liverpool.
“I can’t really say anything other than that we will have to wait to see what happens”, said Magpies boss Rafa Benitez following the 2-2 draw with the Rovers. I’ve have met him one time. I don’t know exactly what but on both sides, it makes no sense to stay in the squad and be in the squad when you don’t have a real opportunity to play.
At Liverpool, manager Jurgen Klopp demands his players work hard and cover plenty of ground in a high-energy pressing system, so Wijnaldum will need to adapt to his new surroundings if he’s to establish himself in the team.
