Klopp: I’d be an idiot if I made a panic buy
Here’s our player ratings for this poor match against Burnley. With his showing in the Europa league final, costing Liverpool the trophy.
The German has long preached the values of improving players rather than replacing them, adamant that diving into the market will not solve all of a team’s problems.
“It was not the best timing in offensive situations, really not good”.
“They have an experienced manager, style of play – I would expect a 3-5-2 system, which is what they have played in the last few games”. So that’s something of course. I understand that Arsenal was not a flawless game – we scored four so obviously we can score goals, but we conceded three so obviously we have a defensive problem.
“We can react better but I saw a lot of good things”.
“You can say that we should be ready in our development and these mistakes should not happen any more, but obviously in our training drills we didn’t play the ball straight to our opponent!” I’ve said a number of times that I don’t have any interest in criticising players.
“Alberto played, so there should be a reason for it”. That’s what I’m thinking about, not what other people want me to think about.
The former defender pondered over whether Liverpool may once again dip into the transfer market though before the window slams shut. We lost the ball in the wrong moments, where we were open to the counter attack, our decision-making wasn’t good.
This game also showed that possession means little, and teams can emerge victorious regardless of how much of the ball they had. It’s not about being risky on one position or something like this.
“For us it’s a big thing to spend millions of pounds”.
“Possession has to lead to something and I don’t think they opened us up too many times”.
Klopp highlighted that James Milner, Ragnar Klavan and Nathaniel Clyne can all operate on that flank. We have to say it was not enough today. There was a lot of time left to win the game. “Tell me! The world is not happy with our left-back or what?”
“A good tempo to how they work, a real pressing game and that aggressive football in passing with a goal and getting the ball moved quickly”.
