Klopp named new Liverpool boss
Per the Guardian, Klopp and Liverpool finalized the details of his arrival on Thursday and is expected to sign the deal by early evening.
Liverpool have officially confirmed that they will hold a press conference at 10am tomorrow morning.
Press Association Sport understands all negotiations have been concluded with the former Borussia Dortmund boss, who is flying into Liverpool’s John Lennon Airport on Thursday afternoon via private jet from his home town.
The German coach won two Bundesiliga titles with Dortmund and reached the 2013 UEFA Champions League Final, where they lost to Bayern Munich.
Liverpool are languishing in 10th place in the table – three points outside of the top four – ahead of their trip to north London on Saturday October 17.
Former Liverpool star Phil Thompson is of the assumption that the club had Jurgen Klopp lined up from a few weeks ago. This move has seen an overwhelming reception from the Liverpool faithful, who are hoping to see Klopp’s “Gegenpressing” being replicated in red shirts.
After a disappointing campaign, the former Borussia Dortmund head coach left his role at the North Rhine-Westphalia club in the summer to take a sabbatical after 14 years of coaching without a break.
Liverpool, for now, are insisting Klopp accept working with the existing backroom team of Gary McAllister and Sean O’Driscoll.
It is reported he has agreed a three-year contract.
The pair, who joined the club only in the summer following an overhaul of Rodgers’ back-room staff, have been informed they are not part of Klopp’s plans for his coaching team at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp is considering prolonging Liverpool’s Boot Room tradition – with Dietmar Hamann the shock contender for a Reds coaching role.
McAllister meanwhile had been out of work since leaving Aston Villa with both on one-year rolling contracts with the club.
