Klopp: No excuses, Liverpool will challenge

Just when you thought Jurgen Klopp couldn’t endear himself to Liverpool supporters any more, he goes and says this.

With Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United seemingly close to sealing a deal for Juventus’ French midfielder Paul Pogba for more than a 100 million pounds, the former Borussia Dortmund boss is not anxious by his own club’s transfer tactics.

Chelsea sent out a tweet soon after describing the dismissal as “a little harsh” but later accepted it was a bad tackle, with Fabregas personally seeking out Klavan to express his regret over the incident.

“It’s not the most important game in the world, but we have to learn and use all we have in terms of knowledge, rhythm, fitness and put it in a game because if you wait for the flawless day [for a match], you’ll wait until you’re old and grey!”

“That is how everybody in football understands it”.

“There are probably no players here any more I don’t want”. I want to do it differently.

Going the other way, he’s brought in some experienced players and some cheap deals, but hasn’t been afraid to spend money, with £30million on Sadio Mane and £25million on Georginio Wijnaldum showing as such. “We built this team only to be successful, not one where we say we will have to wait”.

“You can win championships, you can win titles”.

“We tried to do our best and at this moment we feel quite confident it has worked”.

“We will try everything 100 percent and see what happens”.

“This period in every year is one of a lot of expectations”.

“There are a lot of players outside that pool – good players on to the next step in their career. What are they doing?'” Klopp admitted as much, quipping; “There are no transfers I didn’t want, we have not sold anyone I didn’t want us to sell”.

“We had a long trip with scouting so when you go and talk to the player you have already scanned him. If we agree then we will do it but only then for the right price”.

“It is using experience, using the base and not killing the base and starting completely new”.

In terms of players coming into the club, Klopp is happy with the way the “democratic” transfer policy is structured as he is used to working with a sporting director from his time at Mainz and Borussia Dortmund in his homeland, where such a model is commonplace.

The victory came courtesy of a Gary Cahill header in the tenth minute, but the biggest talking points were a red card for Cesc Fabregas after a studs up challenge on Liverpool new boy Ragnar Klavan, and an injury to another of the Reds’ summer signings, Marko Grujic, who was taken to hospital with concussion after a collision with Bertrand Traore.

The former Southampton man was a big money signing, as he cost the club £30 million.

“I think it’s a very exciting time to be a Liverpool fan”.

Even Klopp last season said the striker needed to learn the difference between “serious pain and what is only pain”. I spoke. You can not argue when only one person is speaking.

“So we will see”. That’s how it is. I have no influence on what other clubs do so why should I think about it?
