Klopp provides injury update on Liverpool trio
“I think Monday’s defeat by Leicester has led to Jurgen Klopp’s first real crossroads moment, in so far as he needs to have a bit of a rethink in regards to the make-up of his team”, told Lawrenson to the BBC Sport website.
Daniel Sturridge will yet again miss another game for the Reds after picking up an injury in training following an illness.
“We all love Jurgen Klopp and think he is a great character, he’s brought a lot to the Premier League, but at the end of the day, Liverpool football club want to be winning trophies again”.
“Dejan had full team training yesterday”, he said.
“It looked like a friendly game”, Klopp said when describing his players’ sluggish reactions during Leicester’s build-up to the first goal by Jamie Vardy. He trained yesterday, now we have to see how he reacts on this. “I’m not sure about it”. We have let him down at times.
It was 2, 3 and then 4-1 [Liverpool scored three times in 14 second-half minutes, with Mane getting the last one] and then suddenly Arsenal have come back and it finished 4-3.
On Sunday, Tottenham host Everton in a match that will see two of the Premier League’s top-scoring players go head-to-head in the form of Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku. Andrey Arshavin has five alongside Giroud. Klopp took his players to southern Spain after the Tottenham win, but rather than return refreshed for an assault on the top four, they went down with a whimper at Leicester.
Four of the 61 chances that Mesut Ozil has created this season have been assists (6.6%). Last season after 22 appearances, he had created 98 goalscoring chances and 16 of these were converted by the recipient of his pass (16.3 per cent).
“We lost Laurent Koscielny quickly and then quickly conceded without having adjusted, we lost three goals – [in minutes] 53, 56 and 63”.
Still, Liverpool’s form against the league’s top teams bodes well (they’re now unbeaten against their top-six rivals) and if Klopp’s men can brush aside Arsenal on Saturday, victory will bring some much-needed relief to Anfield following a hard couple of weeks for the club.
Liverpool are Sky Bet’s even-money favourites for the victory with Arsenal 5/2 while the draw is priced at 13/5. The former Borussia Dortmund manager prefers to play with Sadio Mané, Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho up front, thus forcing Sturridge to warm the bench whenever he is fit.
