Klopp training regime not to blame for injury crisis, insists Lallana
Liverpool must do without Philippe Coutinho for a month after Jurgen Klopp confirmed the seriousness of the Anfield injury epidemic ahead of the FA Cup Third Round.
“With muscle injuries it’s really rare it’s quicker [than a few weeks]”.
The Reds bounced back on Tuesday to defy their injuries and beat Stoke City 1-0, despite finishing the game with only one recognised centre-back who was himself suffering badly from cramp.
“A big shadow for us were the injuries which don’t look too good”.
Klopp said the extent of the injury crisis left him with no option but to make wholesale changes for Friday’s tie at Exeter.
Any reinforcements Klopp may be considering will not arrive in time for Friday’s FA Cup trip to Exeter but the German is considering making an unscheduled move in the January window.
But Tisdale, in charge since 2006, says that his team will take the fight to Liverpool as they look to pull off a result comparable to their 0-0 draw against Manchester United at this stage of the tournament 11 years ago. Sakho? I don’t think so.
There are five all-Premier League games, including Arsenal starting the defense of the title at home to Sunderland, while Eastleigh – the only non-league team remaining – hosts financially stricken second-tier club Bolton.
“We now have three injured centre-backs and the only fit one got cramp near the end, so that was not the funniest thing in the world”. We don’t train, we only recover, that is the situation now? I have made only one league start this season and I want to play more, I think that is obvious for any player in that situation. None of these players will be available for tomorrow.
“It will be a narrow pitch for Liverpool, which might help us but, although they do play on some superb surfaces, we’re not a million miles away from those types of surfaces, so I don’t see it being a help to Exeter, other than its size and surroundings”, he explained.
At one point, Roberto Firmino dispossessed Glenn Whelan and was left with a clear run at goal, only to be let down by a moment of poor control that allowed Ryan Shawcross to make a saving tackle.
Pring is confident that, even if the weather takes a turn for the worse again before the game, there is no chance of the match being called off.
