Knicks’ Early shot in leg, robbed
The New York Daily News offers a slightly more dramatic course of events.
New York Knicks reserve forward Cleanthony Early was shot during a holdup in Queens early Wednesday morning, 1010 WINS reported.
Early was traveling in the requested auto when a group of men confronted him at gunpoint and snatched gold chains from him, police said.
Knicks players also began tweeting their well wishes as they heard the news.
He was then shot in the knee by his robbers, who took his money, jewelry and even the gold caps in his teeth.
The shooting happened at 4:15 a.m., after Early left CityScapes gentlemen’s club on 58th Street in Maspeth Queens.
Police say Early was leaving the club with his girlfriend at the time. Early was taken to Elmhurst Hospital, where he underwent surgery, and was later transported to another hospital.
Early attended Witchita State and was drafted in 2014.
Early played about 30 seconds in the Knicks’ win over the Pistons on Tuesday night.
A statement from the Knicks said the team is aware “of what occurred with Cleanthony Early this morning and are relieved that he is not in a life-threatening situation”.
