Knicks fire Derek Fisher, is Warriors’ Luke Walton on wish list?
“Turner Sports” Reggie Miller and Marv Albert, two longtime observers of Knicks doings, weighed in Tuesday on the firing of coach Derek Fisher and the state of the franchise in general in response to a question from Newsday on a conference call to promote Sunday”s All-Star Game coverage. But 1½ seasons later, Jackson decided he needed someone else.
The New York Knicks made the change on Monday, as they have lost five straight and nine of 10 to fall well back in the Eastern Conference playoff race.
By all early accounts, Anthony is happy to play for interim coach Kurt Rambis as much as he did for Fisher.
A former president of the NBA Players Association, Fisher took over a Knicks team that had a 37-45 record in the 2013-14 season and missed the playoffs for the first time in four years.
The Knicks need to upgrade the point guard position and add a versatile, athletic wing player who can guard multiple positions and knock down shots.
Jackson reiterated on the MSG network that the Knicks are looking to make a trade before the February 18 deadline, but said there’s “very slim opportunity for us”.
“We had a lot of what I consider standing around, one-on-one kind of situational stuff, in the game, where I like to see ball movement, player movement that brings out the best in the team”, Jackson said, per Youngmisuk. As the season began, Matt Barnes was suspended 2 games for his part in what transpired and fined $35K for his comments on Fisher: “violence is never the answer, but sometimes it is”. And Jackson expressed the belief that buying into the triangle offense is important as well. He has a 40-96 record since joining the Knicks before the 2014-15 season. His desire to stay in NY should be a sigh of relief for Knicks fans – he has three years left on his contract – but that instability remains a constant concern.
Fisher went 23-31 to start the season with NY.
Fisher then got off to an embarrassing start this season during training camp. “That was embarrassing for us and for Derek, but that had no nothing to do with what’s happened here today”. McCollum had six of his 21 points in overtime as the Trail Blazers won 112-106 at Memphis.
If Walton bolts for Los Angeles, could that open the door for Thibodeau?
Ezeli has missed the last five games due to soreness in the knee.
