Knicks in talks to trade for Atlanta point guard Jeff Teague
The Knicks have reportedly discussed a possible trade with the Atlanta Hawks for point guard Jeff Teague. Most of the calls thus far have been coming in for Teague, and one of the teams that have been in contact with the Hawks is the Knicks. The Knicks have been and will continue to be in the market for a point guard and Teague would seem to be the ideal fit but Atlanta does not need to trade him so they likely will not unless they get an offer that they really like.
His numbers are down in almost every important offensive category, and he’s having his worst shooting year since his rookie season – 14.3 PPG, 5.3 APG, and 41.3% from the field – but that doesn’t mean that the Knicks shouldn’t desperately want him. He has been part of the Atlanta Hawks for the last more than six years.
It is kind of surprising that the Hawks would be willing to hand over the offensive reigns to their offense to Schroeder, especially since Zach Lowe of ESPN reported that the team had “major trust issues” with 22-year old earlier this week. They could instead replenish their own assets with one of Boston’s young players and multiple future picks.
For his National Basketball Association career, Teague has averaged 11.8 points, 5.1 assists and 2.1 rebounds per contest.
The Knicks have talked to Atlanta recently about a potential trade for PG Jeff Teague.
The Knicks have been playing well this season, but are a few pieces away from a legitimate playoff push.
Dealing Teague would also net the Hawks a nice package in return, one that could include a swingman, first-round draft pick and/or a big man who could help replace Al Horford if he elects to sign elsewhere in free agency.
In short, the Knicks could use someone to play point guard, and Teague makes sense, but I don’t know if the Knicks can acquire him and at this current state in his game, he’s not the best option for the next two years.
NY may not have the assets to compete for Teague.
Also, Teague will be a free agent in two summers.
The Atlanta Hawks are now the No. 3 team in the Eastern Conference standing and are in the position to try and separate themselves from the logjam in the middle of the playoff table.
