‘Knockout Punch’ lineup propels Golden State to 14th straight win
Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors are marching towards a historic season and we’re not even halfway past November yet.
Pelicans 104, Spurs 90: Anthony Davis had 20 points and 18 rebounds in his return from a sore shoulder, and New Orleans beat San Antonio for its second victory of the season. G Leandro Barbosa returned from the flu a night earlier and Livingston played for the first time in three games after being sidelined with a strained left hip flexor.
“At this point, you do (think about the record)”, Warriors power forward Draymond Green admitted. Missing two starters, Chicago Bulls had still managed to bring the match to a nail biting finish at the end. “It’s big. It just shows about the maturity level of this team and how we’ve grown”.
“We understand how hard you have to play in order to win in this league, and everybody has bought into that”, said Jimmy Butler, who had 28 points.
Kirk Hinrich started his second game in row for the injured Derrick Rose (ankle) and kept #NationalTVKirk on stage for us all.
Hornets 113, 76ers 88: Al Jefferson had his third double-double of the season with 26 points and 10 rebounds as the Charlotte Hornets rolled to an easy 113-88 victory over the winless Philadelphia 76ers.
Golden State stressed during the preseason starting fast and shutting down on defense early to set the tone. After the ugly turnover, the Bulls nailed their own two points in a similar fashion as Curry’s, though not almost as artful. A jumper by Mirotic gave the Bulls a 42-40 lead, but the Warriors took the advantage into halftime.
Cleveland led by 15 at the half, but the Bucks more than halved the deficit going into the final frame before Cleveland again pulled away in the fourth quarter. Golden State is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games at home.
It would be a seesaw battle over the next 30 minutes. Besides, it has been proved that in the National Basketball Association everything is possible, from players like Jeremy Lin to shine, to teams like Oklahoma City Thunder to play a huge role in the league and have two of the most promising players (Westbrook, Durant). The last tie occurred with 5:33 left in the fourth quarter. Thompson made the 3-pointer possible with his hustle for an offensive rebound. Green made the layup possible with his great feed to a cutting Curry.
Barnes followed by delivering the knockout punch.
IN was on a three-game winning streak before losing a close game against the Bulls.
“Every single night, when it’s a close game and it’s time to win, no matter how they’ve played, these guys step up”, Walton said.
That lineup outscored the Bulls by nine points over the final 3:58 of the game. “We know going small for too long doesn’t work because it takes so much energy to guard bigger players”.
With their next game against the Nuggets coming up, Stephen Curry finally spoke about it would mean for the team to extend their winning streak to 15-0.
Warriors: Sunday at Denver, where Golden State has lost 17 of 21.
