Kobe Bryant Announces He Will Retire
“I’ve been disappointed this year because you guys (media) have treated him like shit”.
Fortunately for Slay, Bryant and the Lakers visit the Pistons at The Palace this Sunday, so he’ll have a chance to see Bryant on his farewell tour.
Bryant has played professional basketball since the age of 17, when he was picked as 13 overall in a draft by the Charlotte Hornets. For example, say you’re a Derek Fisher fan, you’re not going to agree that Fish is only mentioned on this list once.
“I had to come to terms with it”, said Bryant, speaking after the Lakers 107- 103 loss to the Indiana Pacers in Los Angeles.
The NBA fraternity reacted quickly to Kobe Bryant’s announcement on Sunday that he would retire at the end of the season, with some calling it “sad” while other spoke of his incredible legacy.
Magic Johnson said that Kobe Bryant will go down one of the NBA’s greatest after his retirement, and “the closest thing we’ve seen to Michael Jordan”.
Nelson, now a Nuggets point guard, was asked to reflect on Bryant’s extraordinary career, what he has meant to the National Basketball Association and what he has meant to players in the league.
Kobe Bryant is a living legend and it may be hard to get the ten best plays of his career, as he has had so many memorable plays, but I will try anyway.
Regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, Bryant’s unfortunate decline has been evident as the Lakers continue to struggle.
Retired player Shane Battier also said, “KB scored 56 on me in 3(!) qtrs my rookie year”. They are now 2-14. He’s dealt with injuries for several seasons, and this year, his body looks sapped of his usual explosiveness and strength. Bryant was a five time champion, but an ultimate scoring machine.
“Kobe is the greatest competitor I have ever faced”, Battier said. Bryant spoke to Action News outside Larry’s Steaks in Wynnefield 24 hours after he announced he would retire from playing basketball after 20 seasons with the Lakers.
