Kobe Bryant: Kobe Bryant will be rested at training camp
Bryant and the Lakers held a three-hour workout at the Stan Sheriff Center – the site of a pair of exhibition games against the Utah Jazz Sunday and next Tuesday – on the campus of the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Forty against Houston. Another 44 against Dallas and 42 against Toronto. Nor did he do shooting drills with the rest of the team afterward.
In the brief time period, he’ll sit both the morning or afternoon session of two-a-days this week. He nearly surely won’t play all eight Lakers exhibitions, though the team hasn’t announced anything.
“We don’t want to get insane”, Scott said. If or how long this attitude lasts could tell the story of the Lakers’ seasons, but so far, it’s off to a great start. I could run all day.
“Just keep continuing to put it all on the line”, he said in a message to the Philippine team. You don’t want to beat up your joints and beat up your ligaments any more than you have to. He was also the first-ever Lakers player to be named the Kia National Basketball Association Western Conference Rookie of the Month, an award he received in April for games he played in March this year. Kobe basically dismissed Jackson’s statement that he might not be a Laker after the season ends.
An unquestioned legend, Bryant is a rarity in today’s National Basketball Association as he’s played his entire career for the same team. He also urged Bryant to inform him if fatigue became a factor, whether in games or practice or whatever.
“I’m pretty confident”, he said slowly.
Then again, the early reviews for Bryant’s first day of camp sounded a lot like last year’s. “I didn’t think he was going to go through the whole practice, since it’s his first… but he looked good”, Russell said.
If the Lakers agenda was not already clear, this should solidify the idea that management fully realizes that Julius Randle, Jordan Clarkson and D’Angelo Russell are the future of the Lakers. “It’s a little odd, because I remember like it was yesterday being here and all of my teammates that were here before that are all now either retired or coaching, or on TV, so it’s a little unusual to look around and see so many young guys, but at the same time you feel a great sense of responsibility in trying to guide them as much as I can”.
