Kobe, Highest Vote-Getter, Named Starter For NBA All-Star Game
During that 2005-06 National Basketball Association season, Bryant – who averaged 35.4 points per game – was surrounded by some of the forgotten names buried in Lakers history: Von Wafer, Smush Parker, Devin Green, Brian Cook, Kwame Brown, and Chris Mihm.
This year’s All-Star Game, which will be played at the Air Canada Center in Toronto, could be a special one for James, as he could surpass Los Angeles Lakers great Kobe Bryant for the most career points scored in an NBA All-Star Game.
He is just the sixth player to start in at least 12 All-Star Games, joining Kobe Bryant, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan and Bob Cousy.
After a rough start to the year and some injury problems along the way, it was uncertain whether the 37-year-old would be voted into the 2016 NBA All-Star Game.
LeBron has been very productive in his 11 appearances in the NBA All-Star Game.
James was the leading vote-getter in the Eastern Conference with a grand total of 1,089,206 votes. He has won the All-Star Game MVP twice (2006 and 2008). The two-time NBA All-Star Game Most Valuable Player (2006, 2008) finished off a triple-double with 29 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists during the 2011 game while representing the Miami Heat. Lowry beat out Irving in votes by overcoming a 32,000-vote deficit after the last vote update.
“It’ll be a big thrill for the fans, not just in Toronto but around the league to watch that experience and how the fans in arena react to him, and I think it’s an opportunity for the larger National Basketball Association family to say thank you for his service over the last 20 years”, Silver told reporters in London.
Jordan was actually voted to the All-Star team as a reserve by the Eastern Conference coaches in 2003 because East guards Allen Iverson and Vince Carter were voted starters by the fans.
