Kojima’s Death Stranding gets a new Trailer
Let me know how you feel about the scrapped game’s burial below. There’s major star power behind it, though: Norman Reedus from The Walking Dead, Mads Mikkelsen from Rogue One and Guillermo del Toro, the director of Pan’s Labyrinth, are all involved.
Hollywood director and friend of Hideo Kojima, Guillermo del Toro, rips into Konami on Twitter, slamming the company for its decision to cancel Silent Hills.
Death Stranding, the debut game of Hideo Kojima’s new development studio Kojima Productions, will be powered by the Decima engine, developed by Horizon Zero Dawn studio Guerrilla Games.
Konami’s poor treatment of Kojima has been rumored to be in response to his high standards of game creation, which come at a costly price.
I think given all the teasing it was certain that Mads Mikkelsen (arguably the best Hannibal Lecter, and recently in Doctor Strange) would make an appearance of some kind, and he didn’t disappoint. He was ousted from Konami and from the helm of the franchise he created (“Metal Gear”). You may remember that Kojima and del Toro collaborated on PT, the mysterious horror game demo that popped up on the PS Store a while back. He said that there is one more last thing he should unveil, and it was the new trailer for “Death Stranding,” which can be viewed below. Perhaps neither is the full or actual name of the game?
Tanks and soldiers walk over an overhead bridge, as unearthly worms slither off the machines of war, and more of the oily substance floods around the man’s feet.
At this point in the trailer, a figure walks into view and stops to look up just as a number of fighter planes fly overhead. Like the previous teaser shown earlier this year, this footage is less about showing off the game itself and more about revealing its world and an unsettling, disconcerting, nightmarish tone. Pretty straight-forward, right? Well, to open The Game Awards 2016, the ceremony started by honoring Kojima’s accomplishments in gaming.
