Kompany: Goal is way of giving back to City fans
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has admitted that the football club is still “far away” from mounting a challenge for the Champions League gong, European club football’s biggest prize.
Leroy Sane grabbed a second moments before Aguero chipped in with his 29th goal of the season to seal victory.
With six games remaining City have 64 points, one more than fourth-placed Liverpool, who visit West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.
“I’m so happy, we played good”, said the City boss.
“Vincent is a central defender he is very good with the ball”.
“This season and last we missed him a lot”, the manager said. Finally, in recent games he has played he has delivered performances and hopefully he can stay fit. For example the fans are always ideal, I love that, and you know the club is fantastic, the club supports everybody.
When asked how his team compares to the last eight in the Champions League, which includes Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Juventus and Barcelona, he said: “We are far away”.
“In the first half it was not easy to find the right spaces, but we created enough chances to score goals”, added Guardiola.
The 31-year-old’s 55th-minute header in a 3-0 victory at Southampton, in front of adoring City fans, sparked an emotional celebration from Kompany.
City swept forward as the game approached the half-hour mark and David Silva found De Bruyne, whose strike from the edge of the box cannoned back off a defender.
Sane notched his ninth goal of the season following a tremendous display on the counter attack.
However, Manchester City’s week begins at Wembley as they face Arsenal in the FA Cup semi-finals.
City picked up where they left off at the end of the first half, and Jesus Navas forced a superb save from Forster who palmed a fiery effort over the bar. Everton also sit on 57 points however the Toffees have played one more game than their Manchester counterparts.
“I like both to be involved, I have confidence in both of them, so we will see”. “We showed we could make good opportunities against this team but it was not sufficient and it was hard for us”.
