Kompany set for up to a month on the sidelines
City finally managed to keep a clean sheet without injured captain Vincent Kompany (calf) – who was ruled out for up to four weeks by manager Manuel Pellegrini after the game – but hasn’t won away in its last six attempts.
Vincent Kompany is set for another month on the sidelines after Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini confirmed the defender had suffered a second degree tear in his calf. “We will see how long he will be out, but I don’t think it will be less than three-four weeks”, Pellegrini was quoted as saying by goal.com on Wednesday.
Kompany returned from injury as a substitute on Boxing Day but soon limped off again and faces another three to four weeks out.
“We didn’t win at Arsenal but I don’t think we played a bad game”.
“In the second half of the season we will continue improving”.
English football club Leicester City battled star-studded Manchester City to a 0-0 draw here to boost their points total to 39, the same as Premier League leaders Arsenal though the “Gunners” remain at the top on goal difference.
But Claudio Ranieri’s team silenced their critics with another superb performance as they more than held their own against Pellegrini’s men. “It is the same calf but a different part”, Pellegrini told ESPN.
“I don’t divide the games that we play away or home, ” he said.
“We have a season and it s important to have the amount of points you need to win the title”.
Kompany and long-term casualty Samir Nasri are City’s only absentees. If you ask me if I am happy in the first half of the season I say yes because we are near the top of the table we are playing semi final Capital One Cup and have qualified for the Champions League.
“I think we are returning to be a solid and consistent team”, he added.
‘It’s a pity as he is a really important player for us and plays a key role in defence. It s not easy for us but we want to fight with everybody. I’d like my players to continue to fight like today.
