Konami is adamant it can carry on Metal Gear without Hideo Kojima
Day’s statement reaffirmed Konami’s announcement in March 2015: “As the next step in the series, Konami has already resolved to develop new Metal Gear“. Nearly all fans of Hideo Kojima are aware that Metal Gear Solid 5 The Phantom Pain is the last game that will be handled from the creator and Konami has reassured that fans will continue to see more games from the franchise.
Further adding, “We’re still definitely working on console games and franchises such as Metal Gear, Silent Hill, Castlevania, PES and all the rest“.
In a recent interview, even Graham Day, Konami’s UK Community Manager, denied that Konami would be leaving console gamers in the lurch and focusing on the mobile market. “Metal Gear is about the story, it’s about the characters…” “And that was in itself a very, very good game as well, and that was obviously led by a completely different team”.
While it’s running the console business as usual, the Japanese company thinks mobile gaming will be much more important in the short and mid terms, so it wants to be ready for when that market will be relevant, too.
Day then used PlatinumGames’ Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance as an example of the series continuing on without Kojima’s hand.
Both have stated that Konami are committed to core console gaming.
“Just because mobile gaming has been embraced, that doesn’t mean everything else has to quit”. Mind, all of these are rumors, but they’re rumors with some meat behind them and given Konami’s tight-lipped nature on the actual events occurring behind their doors, it’s hard not to believe that there isn’t truth to them.
“Konami has a history of making the best games around and that is something that will continue. The future has a long, long way”.
