Konami’s Technology Director and Fox Engine Overseer Has Quit
Gameblog claims that Merceron’s departure from Konami comes in reaction to that shift in focus away from triple-A development.
Interestingly, Konami president Hideki Hayakawa stated several months ago that the company would build a variety of different titles and not just mobile games. Merceron first joined Konami two years ago and oversaw the development of Kojima Productions’ Fox Engine that was used to create Pro Evolution Soccer, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
Aside from Pro Evolution Soccer 2016 and the eventual launch of Metal Gear Online, Konami has no big releases planned for next year.
Konami has parted ways with Julien Merceron, the company’s worldwide technology director, according to reports fromGameblog, and supported by reports from IGN.
The game played like a return to the glory days of the series and the tagline “Love The Past, Play The Future”, truly represents this. Konami has yet to confirm or deny either of these reports, however.
But despite the furore over Hideo Kojima’s supposed exit from the company – which is still yet to be confirmed – Konami has always implied that it would continue the series without him.
PCGamesN reached out to Konami for comment, but with TGS in full swing and the Japanese bank holiday being observed, the publisher’s now unavailable to respond with an official statement.
