“Kong: Skull Island”-Tom Hiddleston Interview”
The film was directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts and runs exactly two hours.
Still, it isn’t until the post-credits scene that viewers get filled in on how right Houston Brooks (Corey Hawkins) is about his theory that other monsters walk the Earth.
In his exchanges with Brie Larson’s naturally appealing “anti-war” photographer, on the other hand, he’s genuinely empathetic. Unlike 2014’s Godzilla, they don’t waste time showing Kong. The film, which is set at the end of the Vietnam War, begins with a scientist named Bill Randa (played by John Goodman) begging a senator for the money and supplies necessary to make the trip.
British actor Tom Hiddleston spoke to Sydney Morning Herald, and admitted he was anxious about the wild creatures in the jungle. “And we’re all familiar with what that feels like now”.
The film has a remarkable cast. “I’m going to say Gremlins”, says Brie Larson. Lieut. Col. Preston Packard (Samuel L. Jackson), a Sky Devil helicopter squadron leader, is being asked to join the mission to the island.
With all the stories told about him, we would have thought that Kong would start wearing.
King Kong is an enduring cinematic figure who has a tendency, for better or worse, to reflect the prevailing societal preoccupations and proclivities of the time. While making their way through the jungle, it’s not long before the group realizes Kong isn’t the scariest creature on the island. Kong is part serious monster movie and part silly B-movie. I loved the idea of man versus gods.
In the 21st century, he could add superhero pictures to the storytelling list. “I was just so nervous about it”, he admits. The former stage performer will discuss working with New Zealand director and former comedian Taika Waititi of the Thor film.
This has been the most I’ve travelled on a film. He provides the movie’s badly needed dash of personality and humor; when he balefully calls the lizards “Skullcrawlers”, he then immediately and grouchily backtracks: “I’ve never said that out loud before”. It’s Apocalypse Now remade as a Jurassic Park film, with Kong as Kurtz.
And he’s far from the scariest creature on Skull Island – our adventurers also meet up with killer birds, enormous insects, creepy-crawlers that masquerade as driftwood, and enormous dinosaurlike creatures that appear to be in the throes of indigestion. This, of course, makes for an angry Kong, who actually has a backstory and something of a relationship with the island’s inhabitants.
