Kosovo PM pelted with eggs in parliament
Kosovo’s opposition lawmakers pelted the prime minister with eggs on Tuesday, preventing him from addressing parliament over the ongoing dialogue with Serbia.
Prime Minister Isa Mustafa was delivering a speech about giving more power to minority Serbians in the country when three members of the opposition suddenly stood up and took aim, Reuters reports.
Bodyguards moved to defend Mr. Mustafa, one shielding him with an umbrella.
The speaker of parliament, Kadri Veseli, interrupted the session by calling for a break.
He also reacted strongly against security guards entering the assembly: “Who called you in?”
The decision to form the Association of Serbian majority municipalities in the predominantly Albanian Kosovo, was strongly decried by opposition political parties.
Opposition MPs throw eggs on Kosovo’s PM Isa Mustafa, while adressing parliament on latest agreement between Kosovo and Serbia. Mustafa said that the new Association of Serb Municipalities would help to extend these rights on matters like municipal spending and education.
Relations have improved between Serbia and Kosovo in recent years as both countries hope to gain European Union membership, despite Belgrade not recognising Kosovo as sovereign.
