Kristaps Porzingis probable vs
David Blatt spent more than 20 years coaching overseas before taking over the Cavs last season. With the Knicks next game tomorrow against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Porzingis’ availability will be in serious doubt.
According to ESPN’s Ian Begley, Porzingis suffered a neck strain in a play that looked scarier than it ended up being.
Kristaps Porzingis broke out with his best National Basketball Association game so far, finishing with 13 points, 14 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks before exiting in the final minutes with a neck injury. “My long, flexible neck is fine”. Now I’ve just got to try to relax my neck as much as possible… because they’re so stiff. “He’s just learning how to play defense to start the season against a few of the best players in the league”. Kyle O’Quinn is also an option against the Cavaliers for head coach Derek Fisher. After all, I don’t doubt many of those New Yorkers watch Baloncesto Sevilla regularly…
Rookie point guard Jerian Grant also added a career-high 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting while pulling down four rebounds and dishing out three assists, with only one turnover, in 23 minutes off the bench. Fisher admitted that he is thinking about changing the lineup, but is hesitant to start the rookie.
Anthony, who didn’t even know it was Porzingis that he landed on, said the rookie “seems OK”, and expressed the same logic he’s used when asked about the progress and return of Arron Afflalo, who’ll likely be out a couple of weeks due to a hamstring malady.
Could Jimmer Fredette be an option? The former National Player of the Year is hopeful that means he can land a spot on the roster sooner rather than later.
“I believe that we’re going to be OK”, Anthony said.
Porzingis said he was “fired up” to go against the likes of Aldridge and the future Hall of Fame trio of Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and Manu Ginobili, and it showed. In spite of that stigma, No. 4 pick Kristaps Porzingis is slowly but surely proving not to be the joke we all thought he might be in early action this season. “So I do know for sure that when I’m ready I will be out there because I’m trying to play yesterday, so I’m excited”.
With Vujacic and Calderon struggling to do much of anything, a call to Fredette is not the worst idea.
