The items were recalled from different retail stores in Indiana, Ohio, Georgia, Kentucky, Alabama, Virginia, South Carolina, Illinois, Arkansas, Missouri, Michigan, Mississippi, West Virginia, Texas, North Carolina, and Louisiana.
Affected stores include Kroger, Ralphs, Food 4 Less, Foods Co., Fred Meyer, Fry’s, King Soopers, City Market, Smith’s, Dillons, Baker’s, Gerbes, Jay C, Ruler Foods, Pay Less, Owen’s and Scott’s in the 31 states where The Kroger Co. operates, including Tennessee.
Kroger officials said if eaten, it could result in severe illness to those individuals who may consume the products. Salmonella is estimated to cause 1 million illnesses in the U.S. each year.
Customers who have purchased the recalled products are advised not to use them and to return them to a store for full refund or replacement. Most persons infected with the bacteria (there are more than 30 types) develop diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps 12 to 72 hours after infection.
