Kubiak: Osweiler’s eye better, Manning has good week
Back up quarterbacks square off on Monday Night Football as AJ McCarron leads the Cincinnati Bengals against Brock Osweiler and the Denver Broncos.
This will be the sixth straight start of Osweiler while Peyton Manning continues rehab a torn planter fascia in his left foot.
Manning has not played for the Broncos since Week 10’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs due to a nagging leg injury.
After experiencing a setback last week, Manning returned to throwing on his own indoors this week. He was ruled out against the Steelers.
The Broncos are 3-2 in Brock Osweiler’s starts. When Manning went down, Osweiler took over and had a 3-0 record but the Broncos lost their last two games that would question the coaching staff to consider Manning back into the game on Sunday to play against Cincinnati.
Cincy is going with an uncommon Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday practice routine so the team can have Christmas off on Friday. Manning had hoped to practice this week.
Broncos QB Peyton Manning (foot) is expected to return to practice on Wednesday. “I was over there and saw it first-hand, so I thought it was a really good week”.
“I think he’s done a hell of a job”, Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak said.
NFL Media’s James Palmer reported that the only difference in Saturday’s workout and the quarterback’s earlier work this week is Kubiak watched this one in person as opposed to watching the film. That would play perfectly into Denver’s hand as they’re giving up just 200 yards through the air each game. I show my emotion inside the white lines, and when I leave the field, I’m pleased with the win but I try to never get too high or too low.
In five-plus games of action this season, Osweiler has eight touchdowns, four interceptions and an 84.9 passer rating for the Broncos. “And we’re trying to get Peyton healthy”. Manning has struggled throughout the first half of the season, by adding injury to the situation deciding to stick with him will be a hard decision to commit to confidently.
