Kubiak: there’s no rush for Manning decision
Both Kubiak and Broncos general manager John Elway, who retired after the 1998 season following his second Super Bowl victory, have spoken with Manning this week and will continue to have discussions with the future Hall of Famer.
“The bottom line is we made a decision how we’re going to go about it and it’s him taking his time, to work through things, think through things”, Kubiak said Wednesday at the NFL Scouting Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium. “We’re going to give him as much time as he needs”. “We’re going to respect the fact and give him the time”.
Until the Denver Broncos get word from Peyton Manning, they will continue to wait – and their plans at quarterback will remain in flux. Also, the Broncos want to sign Brock Osweiler – Manning’s backup who is primed to become Denver’s next starter – to a long-term contract.
Asked whether Osweiler or his representatives wanted to know Manning’s decision before agreeing to a new deal with the Broncos, Elway said, “I haven’t talked to Brock yet”. We know where Brock is. “But if I look at Brock Osweiler, if I’m in his shoes, I look at a place where I could be successful and in a system that fits me”.
Bruce Arians on Peyton Manning controversy: “If we’re all going to get nitpicked for what we did in college, we’re all in trouble”.
“With that in mind, also affording Peyton the time that he deserves, we’re not in any rush”, he added.
“We came together to change what is done about sexual assault”, one of the accusers, identified in the lawsuit as Jane Doe 1, said in a phone interview. I had a brief one with him yesterday.
The trainer, Jamie Ann Naughright, settled in 1997, but she sued Manning for defamation in 2002 after he discussed the incident in a book.
Elway said he met with Manning this week and plans to speak with Manning again next week but isn’t pressing him for an answer even though Manning’s plans could complicate Elway’s efforts to re-sign Osweiler – with whom he has yet to speak.
But does Elway want him back at a reduced salary from the $10 million Ware is scheduled to make in 2016, the final year of his contract?
“Well, I think that’s the hard part”, Elway said.
Miller is a free agent entering this offseason and there will be many suitors of the outside linebacker.
The addition – Smith did not specify if the players were current or former – comes a day after UT’s athletics coaches held a joint press conference to say in a unified message that they do not believe the school has a culture issue. And until he does, he’ll never go down as the best quarterback ever. We will probably be talking today (or) I know this week.
