Kuchar wins Fiji worldwide
World No. 16 Kuchar had a total of 4-under 284 and was never further back than second place at the Natadolo Bay Golf Club, where the field was confronted with strong wind gusts over the opening two days.
Starting the final round in calmer weather with a two-shot lead, Kuchar fired a three-under 69 to finish well ahead of Australia’s Aron Price.
Kuchar attributed his victory to “solid” golf in challenging conditions, particularly during the early rounds.
New Zealand’s Ryan Fox had to settle for a share of third place after Matt Kuchar capped off an impressive week by winning the Fiji worldwide.
Hometown hero Singh had a bogey free round shooting a course record of 7-under 65 that included seven birdies to finish 1-over the card.
“I felt I was surviving but played a few really steady, good golf and that was a real difference”, he said.
“I made a couple of good putts – 15 and 14 were good putts from outside 15 feet and I got up and down on 16 to save par”.
The Fiji event is co-sanctioned by OneAsia and the Australasian PGA.
On a day where conditions were the best of the week, Kuchar quickly consolidated his overnight two shot lead over Price with an outward nine of 33 and he had the luxury of an even par back nine to still win by four.
Rory McIlroy is at six-under in a tie for 39th.
Justin Rose, who along with McIlroy is at the Frys.com Open because of an eight-man exhibition he played in Turkey three years ago, made a late pair of birdies for a 68 and is within two shots.
