Kyle Busch win NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship
The night belonged to Kyle Busch, a guy who began the season in a hospital after he was injured in an Xfinity Series crash.
The 44-year-old will retire after 797 races, 93 wins and four championships. Injured an absent from the first eleven races Busch wins the title in his eleventh full season. Jones was also the first driver in series history to win Rookie of the Year and a championship in the same season.
“It’s a thrill. Been 10 years since we won one”, said Joe Gibbs.
There was a strong sentimental push for Gordon to go out on top in his final race.
And although he was less than an hour into this next phase of life Sunday, he seemed emphatic that there would not be pangs to return to a race auto. At this point, fans didn’t think he could get any better, but they were wrong.
NASCAR’s comeback story is now a championship tale. He had six races to pass that second obstacle. Kurt Busch won the title in 2004, the inaugural season of NASCAR’s Chase format.
The 2015 season started off in a frightening fashion for Busch. Also, he had some ongoing back issues that had given him trouble during the 2014 season.
But there is no shame in Gordon not going out on top of the sport.
Rain is threatening the start of NASCAR’s season finale. Quite simply, Busch drove like there was nothing riding on the result.
He settled Sunday for a more familiar position in his final snapshot from 2015: second. Coincidentally, Gordon’s first Cup race was Petty’s last.
Jeff Gordon is getting a lot of love at the end of the rainbow.
Do we did it end up in Victory Lane.
An argument against Keselowski would have been that he only won one race, but it was the same scenario you had with Truex and Gordon racing for a championship Sunday.
During the race, he got to hang with the frontrunners (after qualifying 14th) and even lead the pack around for nine laps-the first of which drew a standing ovation from the crowd-until his teammate Kasey Kahne smacked the wall and brought out the second caution of the day.
Gordon has a chance to ride off into the sunset in the ultimate style. He capped off an incredible career that night in Miami. But he gave them one more memory, and an exit worthy of his career.
Indeed, Busch won in his sixth race back, on the road course at Sonoma, a week after he finished last at MI. Gordon said before the season started he’d retire after this race.
For vehicle owner Joe Gibbs, the accomplished team took its fourth Cup crown to go along with its four Nationwide Series championships. During his early years at the raceway, road racing was not that popular and it was not as important as it was today.
Indianapolis was another special place for Gordon.
Harvick took an early lead over the field, leading over 40 laps by the halfway point.
Harvick was looking for back-to-back titles. (11 behind): Wasn’t a factor, finishing 12th.
From 2000-2005, Gordon had Robbie Loomis.
That’s my Sports Comment. The recipient was his crew chief, Alan Gustafson.
Lord only knows what a Kyle Busch championship victory celebration would have looked like in 2008. He did so after missing 11 races due to injuries suffered in Daytona in February. Who can forget his feud with Clint Bowyer in 2012? It was a gift Gordon had planned to give the team owner he describes as NASCAR’s greatest for a while and wasn’t the only gift he handed out over the weekend.
Bill Clinton, the 42nd President of the United States, expressed support for four-time champion Jeff Gordon on his Twitter page.
NASCAR National Football League: NBC made the decision to go beyond its 7 p.m. window and stick with the race through its conclusion.
On the restart, which came with seven laps to go saw Busch go past Keselowski for the lead. Harvick was fourth and restarted right behind Busch in the outside line. Gordon grabbed the collar on his firesuit and the brawl ensued, with some blood and a few profanities from each. Gordon made sure his colleagues will remember the day, too.
“I was really anxious”. He became the new face, providing fans everywhere with someone to root for week in and week out. “And maybe that’ll change some more things about me?” He got to go out with his entire family by his side and two racing legends, Mario Andretti and Lewis Hamilton, on his pit box.
