Kyle Busch: Wins at Loudon
Busch has now won 2 in a row, 3 of his last 4, in the 8 races he’s competed in this season. It’s an outlook the likes of Yogi Berra or the Philadelphia Flyers can understand. However, Busch fell a lap down in the process.
The No. 24 sustained severe damage and his crew furiously worked at repairs to avoid moving to a backup auto and dropping to the back of the field for Sunday’s race.
As implausible as it sounds considering how his season started, it appears more possible as each race weekend goes by. Brad Keselowski shuffled in behind him in third, with Joey Logano and Dale Earnhardt Jr. rounding out the top five. Edwards led the first 19 laps before Busch pulled ahead of him to claim the lead for the first time. Busch had to overcome a lost lap when he thought he had a tire deflating late in the race. He’s after it…. They are trying to keep themselves up front and trying to get good finishes. “But that was a calculated risk that I felt like I needed to take at that particular moment”. When NASCAR threw a caution for a wreck shortly thereafter, the field was frozen and Busch’s Sprint Cup Series win was official. “This is something that I’m not sure we ever would have expected”.
After winning, US News said Busch held the Loudon lobster trophy in Victory Lane beside his wife and their son Brexton.
Winning on the physically demanding Sonoma Raceway road course with a foot stabilized by a metal plate figured to be his wonder stroke until Sunday. Busch recorded his 32nd Sprint Cup victory and second on the Magic Mile.
Crew chief Adam Stevens, in his first season calling the shots in Cup racing for JGR, made all the right choices to keep Busch in contention for the win and a crack at the top 30.
Could Busch imagine, days after a horrific crash, he would become a threat for the title? Bowyer, who has two New Hampshire wins will start 18th.
“I think I’ve got some good ideas about that. The way he’s handled everything, disappointments, handled that really well, too”. Austin Dillon, Jeff Gordon and Kurt Busch, who is Kyle’s elder brother, completed the top-10.
We havent had that serious conversation yet because that really hasnt been proposed to us, Stucker said Saturday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
“Bob, I’m going to get you a date”, Bahre recalled of a phone conversation he had with France. The irony of this scenario is that Busch is extraordinary at adapting physically, particularly to different cars and changing circumstances. Jimmie Johnson leads all drivers with four victories, but he hasn’t won in Loudon since 2010. “Every time I come back to New Hampshire, I feel at ease”.
Busch won the 5-Hour Energy 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway Sunday afternoon. He got a carbon seat this year to meet the rules. Justin Allgaier got the free pass, putting him back on the lead lap. It’s no longer a question of if he gets in the top 30 of points, it’s when. Busch is 70 points back with seven regular season races still remaining, a not insurmountable margin. Can he win it all – and add a Sprint Cup title to all those victories? “I think it’s a definitely a bold idea, and with the way these cars are, it gives us that opportunity to have the splitter and the spoiler and be able to adjust those fairly easily to change the package around”.
“I drove as hard as I could”, Busch said.
Toeing successfully between aggressive and conservative netted allowed Busch to gain 27 points on David Gilliland, now ranked 30th in the standings.
